5 no B.S. tips to Eating Right
We recently changed the way we eat in our household as we found ourselves slipping back into old habits.
It is sooo EASY to get nudged off track little bit by little bit and end up completely facing the wrong direction.
Here are 5 tips that you will want to stick with and constantly remind yourself of that will help you stay on track.
1. You Should Never be Starving…
In other words, don’t skip meals. I know this is hard for so many people with their busy schedule but all it takes is a little planning and you can ensure that you don’t CRASH or end up in spot where you are STARVING and eat something that you Know is not good for you just to satisfy your craving. Remember eat smaller more frequent meals.
2. You Need Fat, Protein, and CARBS.
If you are on a diet that Eliminates one of the Macro Nutrients, meaning carbs, protein, or fat, re-evaluate what you are doing and start focusing on eating foods that will Nurture your body versus eliminating Carbs, Fat, or Protein.
Let me be the first to tell you, if you think eating bacon, hamburgers without the bun, cheese, and sausage just to avoid “carbs” is healthy, It is Not.
We will dive into detail about this later but just start making the shift in your thinking of eating foods that are nutritious and give your body energy and not just avoid eating carbs, protein, or fat, which your body needs all of.
3. Don’t Over Eat.
Sounds simple enough right? I am not sure about you but long ago I was addicted to being “stuffed”. I didn’t feel like I ate enough until my belly was full like Thanksgiving dinner. This can be hard to overcome but practice by leaving food on your plate and not eating it. Then you can start focusing on how you feel and not finishing your plate.
Eat like kids do. They eat until there not hungry anymore. Not until they are so full they can’t moves. After kids eat they have energy and their bouncing off the walls and so should you.
4. Know What Your Eating.
Always read the ingredient list and ignore the packaging. If it says Fat Free, Sugar Free, Low Carb, it should raise a red flag. Think about it. If they take the fat or sugar out, they have to replace it with something else. In most cases, Chemicals.
Artificial sweeteners is a nice term for chemical sweetener. You are not tasting a strawberry concoction made of strawberry juice, you are tasting a chemical that tastes like strawberries in your yogurt.
When making a selection at the grocery store, ignore the packaging and look straight at the ingredient list. That is the only thing that will tell you what your eating.
If the ingredients contain artificial sweeteners, aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, partially or fully hydrogenated oils, or enriched flour, you want to stay away from it.
5. You Don’t Have to be Perfect.
The question you need to ask yourself is, Are you Consistently Eating Healthy with a Few Bad Meals or Consistently Eating Bad with a Few Good Meals?
You are allowed to have cake on your birthday but it is not your birthday everyday! Seriously, I challenge you to start taking steps in the right direction and get your health under control.
I think the food industry tries to confuse us on what is healthy and what is not in order to sell their products but deep down I think you can take a guess at what is truly good for your body and health.
Here is a hint… Start eating your veggies.
