7 Absolute Rules to Eating Right

If you have hung around HT Fitness very long you know we don't teach going on diets but instead the key to success is learning to eat right the first time and creating a healthy lifestyle.


I know that sounds easier then it is but I wanted to share with you the 7 Absolute Rules to Eating Healthy.  How many of these rules are you following?


Rule 1: Plan & Prepare your meals



Take your lunch to work and bring snacks with you when you go out.  This is very easy to do and


easy not to do.  When Amanda was working away from the house she would pack her lunch the night before.  Actually, that is what we do with the kids every night before a school night.

Rule 2: Don’t Skip Meals

Eat breakfast, lunch, & dinner with snacks in between each meal. This will keep your metabolism high throughout the day.  When you skip meals and reduce your calorie intake too much your metabolism slows down.

Rule 3: Always Read Ingredient List

Read food labels and pay attention to the ingredient list more so then the number of calories. 100 calories does not equal 100 calories in terms if it is healthy or not.  100 Calories of cookies is still... cookies, which should not be part of your regular diet.

Rule 4: Avoid restaurant and fast food

You don’t know what they are putting in the food. Fast food is full of chemicals and preservatives and highly processed.

Rule 5: Eat dinner minimum 2-3 hours before going to bed


Give time for your food to digest.  You don't want to go to sleep with a full stomach.  You don't burn a lot of calories when your sleeping so why stuff yourself before going to bed.


Rule 6: Don’t Overeat


We typically overeat at lunch and dinner. You should not be stuffed but instead not hungry anymore. If you get tired after eating you either ate too much or the wrong foods. You should feel energized after eating.


Rule 7: Always make Improvements


We are still making improvements to our diet and finding healthier and better options. Subscribe to Clean Eating magazine and find healthy easy meals to prepare.

I hope these rules help you out.  I have been following these rules for over a decade and they have served me very well and everybody else who chooses to follow them.
